Data commentary 1: Sugar-sweetened beverage cunsumption for different groups:영어로 숫자 보고하기

Figure 5 presents information on soft drink cunsumtion in 1995 among Australian adults, by age group and gender, as well as the average cunsumption for each drinker of soft drink(per consumer) and the average consumption related to the whole population(per capita).

Overall, the amount of comsumption decreased with age for both genders but, within each age group, males tend to drink more soft drink than females. The highest consumption(per consumer) was found in those aged 19-24, with males consuming 800mL and females consuming approximately 550mL. By the age of 65, consumption had halved, at approximately 400mL and 300ML, respectively. However, the per capita consumption fall much more steep over the age groups, to less than 50mL for both genders in the 65+ group. This suggests that many more people drank soft drink when younger. As soft drink with high sugar content contributes to serious health issues, such as obesity, diabetes and dental problems, the reduction of soft drink consumption should be encouraged. These findings indicate that public health organisations could target younger males in advertising campaigns. However, a more successful strategy could be to encourage soft drink producers to create less sugary drinks as well as cutting down on the size of an individual serve.
